Finding Your Size Before You Order

Sizing varies between manufacturers, and a size 9 in one brand is rarely a size 9 in another. Measure once and use the chart for the specific range.

Measuring your foot

  1. Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall, late in the day when your feet are largest.
  2. Mark the tip of your longest toe — this is not always the big toe.
  3. Measure from the wall to the mark in millimetres.

For running shoes, add 5–10 mm of room at the toe. Your foot lengthens as it loads, and a shoe that fits perfectly standing still will bruise your toenails at mile ten.

Court shoes are different

Squash, badminton and indoor court shoes should fit snugly. Lateral movement in a loose shoe rolls the ankle. Size them close and expect no toe room at all.
